WHITESTONE — More than a dozen police officers responded to 8th Avenue between 148th and 149th streets Sunday afternoon for what witnesses said was a call about a gun.

Several officers had their guns drawn and crouched behind their police cruisers as others investigated at a home midway down the block. Police vehicles blocked both ends of the street.

Within a few minutes, officers appeared to have assessed the situation and quickly left the area, as stunned spectators were allowed back onto the block.
