Woman charged in pupil’s death: Manhattan DA

By Alex Robinson

JAMAICA — A New Jersey woman was charged Tuesday for allegedly performing a botched butt enlargement procedure that caused the death of a 22-year-old Jamaica college student in July, the Manhattan district attorney’s office said.

Tamira Mobley, 28, injected silicone into Tamara Blaine’s buttocks at a Manhattan hotel on the afternoon of July 8, according to a criminal complaint filed by the Manhattan DA’s office.

The silicone went into Blaine’s veins, causing her to asphyxiate and have a seizure, the medical examiner’s office told police. Emergency Medical Responders rushed Blaine to St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, the complaint said.

Mobley was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court and faces second-degree manslaughter and first-degree assault charges. The judge set her bail at $100,000.
