Flushing man charged with arson: NYPD

FLUSHING — A Flushing man was arrested on charges of setting his own building on fire Monday afternoon, police said.

Benjamin Perez, 55, was charged with arson, criminal mischief and reckless endangerment after he allegedly started a blaze that ripped through the six-story building where he lived on Franklin Avenue, according to cops.

More than 75 firefighters responded to the all-hands fire shortly after 1 p.m. and put the fire under control by 1:44 p.m.

The FDNY said the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
