Contract deal reached between MTA and workers

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the 34,000 members of the Transport Workers Union have reached an agreement.

The settlement, which is now subject to a vote by the workers and the MTA board, was announced Thursday by Gov. Andrew Cuomo along with MTA Chairman Tom Prendergast and TWU President John Samuelson.

The workers had been without a union contract since January 2012,

The governor said the settlement would not result in any new fare or tolls increases.
