Passers-by interrupt attempted abduction in College Point: Police

COLLEGE POINT — Police were looking for a man who they said tried to drag an 18-year-old woman into his car early Sunday morning in College Point.

The suspect, a stranger to the victim, asked the teen if she wanted a ride from a gray sedan at around 12:15 a.m. while the woman was walking westbound on the north side of 25th Avenue near 126th Street, according to cops. The victim said no and kept walking, the NYPD said.

The suspect then parked his vehicle at the corner of 25th Avenue and 124th Street, got out and allegedly grabbed the woman’s waist and put his hand over her mouth, while trying to pull her into his car, police said.

Two unidentified passers-by heard the woman’s muffled screams and yelled “what’s going on?” at which point the suspect let her go, ran back to his car and fled, the NYPD said.

Police described the suspect as a 5-foot-6 Hispanic man between 30 and 35 years old with short, dark, spiked hair and a slim build. Authorities said he had a light beard and mustache and was wearing a blue short-sleeved shirt.

The four-door sedan he was driving had damage on the passenger side, according to cops.
