Mayor, unions must work together

As we begin 2014, we also begin under the administration of a new mayor.

Mayor Bill de Blasio has his work cut out for him, since running this city is no easy task. Hopefully, he will be able to continue to keep crime down and negotiate fair and livable contracts with all the city’s major unions: police, fire, sanitation and teachers, as well as Local 237.

The workers of this city deserve to have retroactive pay given to them as part of the newly negotiated contracts. They provide essential services to the people of this city and thus must be properly and fairly compensated for their services and dedication.

De Blasio needs to be willing to work with all these unions at the bargaining table and the unions need to be flexible in order to reach fair and equitable agreements.

Welcome and good luck to DeBlasio.
