Off-duty corrections officer shot dead in Queens Village: Report

By Rich Bockmann

An off-duty corrections officer who confronted his estranged wife outside a home in Queens Village was shot dead by her new boyfriend early Friday morning, according to the NYPD and a news report.

The victim, identified by the New York Post as 46-year-old Jeffrey Ragland, was shot in the chest in the driveway of a home on 108th Avenue around 4:30 a.m., police said.

He was taken to Long Island Jewish Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the police.

Ragland approached the home as his estranged wife and her new boyfriend, both of whom are also corrections officers, as they were leaving the house on their way to work, the New York Post.

Ragland started arguing and physically attacking the woman, and that was when her boyfriend allegedly drew his gun and fired two shots at her husband, hitting him once in the chest, the paper reported.
