KEW GARDENS HILLS — Police foiled an attempted burglary at JK Deli in the early hours of Jan. 3.

Police said they arrested five suspects in the act of burglarizing the deli, at the corner of 71st Avenue and Kissena Boulevard, just before 3 a.m.

Four of the suspects were on the roof when police said they arrived to see a hole in the deli’s ceiling and damage to the ATM. The suspects scattered when responding officers climbed up the hole, police said.

After a brief chase, police found two of the suspects hiding in trees near the deli. Another was found in an elevator in an adjacent building and the fourth was arrested after a brief struggle, police said.

The fifth suspect was waiting in a getaway car not far from the deli, the NYPD said.

The suspects allegedly tried to make off with $12,000 in cash, 3,518 lottery scratch tickets, 162 packs of cigarettes and 49 boxes of cigars, according to the NYPD.
