Trains delayed by signal problems

Trains were snarled by weather-related delays Tuesday morning, despite the MTA’s assurances that service would continue without interruption.

The No. 7 train was delayed due to a signal problem at 74th Street-Broadway, and the E, M and R trains were also held up because of signal problems at Queens Plaza.

The Long Island Rail Road experienced delays on all lines Tuesday morning. Commuters could expect 15- to 20-minute delays, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

A signal problem in the East River tunnel caused the LIRR delays, but MTA officials could not yet confirm whether the problem was related to the frigid temperatures. The National Weather Service predicting the temperature to reach a high of 13 degrees and the wind chill to feel as cold as -17 degrees in the area.The MTA advised passengers to allow for additional travel time in their commutes.
