Man dies after weekend shooting in Roy Wilkins Park

A 24-year-old man died after he was shot inside Roy Wilkins Park Saturday, police said.

The victim, whose name the police did not release, was found inside the park near Merrick and Baisley boulevards around 3 p.m. Saturday and taken to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition.

The incident was originally classified as an assault, but early Thursday morning police announced the victim died and reclassified the attack as a homicide.
