Gim announces Kim challenge

By Alex Robinson

Flushing Republican Phil Gim has announced he will take a second crack at state Assemblyman Ron Kim’s (D-Flushing) seat.

The small business owner, who ran against Kim in the 2012 general election, made his announcement on Memorial Day weekend.

“I’m stepping forward to run for the Assembly to fight to make New York a better place,” Gim said. “Together we can build a better New York, one community at a time.”

Gim said tackling Queens’ rising cost of living and other economic problems will be priorities for him.

The freshman assemblyman beat Gim by a landslide in 2012 to become the first Korean-American elected to the state Legislature.
