Bronx-Whitestone Bridge to close overnight for construction

By Gabrielle Prusak

Construction on the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge will shut down two of three southbound lanes heading into Queens overnight. The reconstruction project will start Monday at 11 p.m. and continue into Tuesday until 5 a.m. It will close again Tuesday into Wednesday morning.

Drivers are being asked to use the Throgs Neck Bridge as an alternative route. Motorist should expect delays on the bridge.

The construction on the bridge involves the installation of new steel grinders. This construction is a part of the $109 million Queens approach rehabilitation and reconstruction project.

The Queens approach project contractors are E.E. Cruz, of Manhattan and Tully Construction Co., which started on this project in July 2011 and will complete it in early 2015.
