Pedestrian fatally struck in South Ozone Park: Police

By Kelsey Durham

A pedestrian died Saturday after he was hit by a car while attempting to cross North Conduit Avenue in South Ozone Park, the NYPD said.

Police said a 58-year-old man was crossing northbound near 130th Street at 9:56 a.m. when he turned around after reaching the midway point of the street and attempted to return to the curb. The man was then hit by a gray 2005 Toyota Avalon that was traveling west down North Conduit Avenue, authorities said.

The pedestrian was taken to Jamaica Hospital and died later that afternoon from his injuries, according to police.

The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and no charges had been filed, but the NYPD was still investigating the incident. Police did not say whether the pedestrian was crossing inside a crosswalk or against the signal.

The victim’s name was not yet released because his family had not yet been notified
