South Jamaica man charged with gun possession: Police

ST. ALBANS — An NYPD sergeant and three officers happened to be on patrol at the intersection of Merrick Boulevard and 119th Avenue last Saturday night when they said they witnessed a South Jamaica man fire a gun toward a group of people he had been arguing with, police said.

The man, identified by police as Michael Jones, then allegedly threw the gun on the ground and took off when he saw the authorities get out of their unmarked car, according to the NYPD.

Police chased Jones and arrested him near Merrick and Baisley boulevards, allegedly recovering a loaded .25-caliber Raven Arms gun, police said.

Jones was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest, according to cops.
