Fireworks plague boro

By Kelsey Durham

Some residents across the borough were bothered by a slew of illegal fireworks that were repeatedly set off by their neighbors throughout the July 4 weekend.

The NYPD urged people before and during the holiday to complain about the use of illegal fireworks and even offered rewards for information leading to the arrest of people possessing the substances, but the threat did not stop residents from using them during their celebrations.

Some homeowners complained that the noise lasted until close to 3 a.m. in some neighborhoods.

The 109th and 111th precincts, which cover northern and eastern Queens, could not be reached for comment this week about how many complaints were logged regarding fireworks.
