Man found guilty in fatal Rich Hill beating: Brown

RICHMOND HILL — A 28-year-old Fresh Meadows man was found guilty in the fatal beat down of a Moka Nightclub and Lounge patron, the Queens DA said.

District Attorney Richard Brown said Kristian Sorbera, 28, of Fresh Meadows, was found guilty of manslaughter in the death of Deosarran Ramdular last week.

“According to trial testimony, the defendant saw the victim outside the club after it had closed,” Brown said of the March 2013 incident. “He jumped out of his car, punched the victim once, knocking him to the ground and brutally kicked the Queens man in the face and head, causing brain death.”

Sorbera’s attorney Angelo MacDonald said his client was disappointed in the verdict but was now focused on his scheduled Aug. 28 sentencing. He faces up to 25 years in prison.

“We had hoped the jury would recognize what we felt was some reasonable doubt,” MacDonald said. “Hopefully, the judge will show some leniency.”

Prosecutors contend that Sorbera was working at Moka Nightclub and Lounge March 18, 2013, when he and Ramdular got into an argument outside the Richmond Hill venue.

Sorbera then attacked Ramdular and told the victim’s companion, “Your friend deserved that,” after the beating put him on life support, Brown said.

Ramdular was removed from life support March 24, 2013, at his family’s request, the DA said.
