Former Flushing resident convicted in 1995 murder

By Alex Robinson

A former Flushing resident has been found guilty in the 1995 slaying of an acquaintance on the roof of a Kissena Boulevard apartment building, the Queens district attorney’s office said Wednesday.

Jason Kollmann was stabbed 15 times in his neck, chest and back before being thrown off the roof of 43-43 Kissena Blvd. and left to die, according to prosecutors.

His murder went unsolved for 17 years until fresh testimony from two witnesses led the NYPD cold case squad to Andrew Caballero, 39, in 2012. Caballero was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree murder, the DA said.

The jury found Caballero guilty of the charge after two days of deliberations and a two-week trial, according to the Queens DA.

Kollman was 21 when he was murdered.
