OZONE PARK — The Sikh Cultural Society said it met with the commander of the 102nd Precinct Monday to discuss whether bias played into a truck driver allegedly striking and dragging a 29-year-old Sikh man in Ozone Park last week.
The 102nd Precinct told the Sikh Cultural Society its officers had not had the chance to interview the victim and ask him about remarks that may have indicated the attacker’s motivation, according to Harpreet Singh Toor, a spokesman for the group based out of the largest Sikh temple in the state.
“Police still have to speak to the gentleman who got hurt, because last time I spoke with him he was under observation at Jamaica Hospital,” Toor said, noting that early reports suggested the driver may have uttered a slur. “Only the victim knows.”
Police said the driver of a White Chevrolet pickup truck got into an argument with a 29-year-old Long Island man near 99th Street and 101st Avenue in Ozone Park around midnight Wednesday,
The driver allegedly drove into the 29-year-old and then pulled his body some 10 feet before taking off, the NYPD said.
The victim, who works in Ozone Park, was brought to Jamaica Hospital with skin rashes.
The NYPD said its investigation was ongoing.
