A Flushing motorcyclist and another man from Mount Vernon, N.Y., were arrested during an episode of biker-wilding on the Van Wyck Expressway Saturday evening, police said.
Around 5 p.m., officers from the 107th Precinct responded to several reports of a large group of dirt bikes and all terrain vehicles driving recklessly along the Van Wyck, according to the NYPD. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers observed numerous motorbikes in both the north and southbound lanes.
One ATV rode along Park Drive East and entered the expressway’s northbound lane via the exit ramp and continued to drive against the flow of traffic. As dozens of vehicles slowed to avoid hitting the ATV it caused a blue Yamaha four-wheeled motorcycle to stop, allowing officers to arrest the rider, 30-year-old Omid Bedi of Lawrence Street in Flushing. He was charged with several counts, including reckless endangerment and criminal nuisance, police say.
Officers observed another group of motorcyclists heading southbound on the Van Wyck and they slowed traffic in an effort to stop the riders.
Several motorcyclists lifted their bikes over the highway’s median and fled north, leaving behind two ATVs and a dirt bike, police said. One rider, 39-year-old Equilla Ross of Mount Vernon, tried to get past the stopped vehicles and was arrested and charged with two counts of criminal nuisance, according to the NYPD.
