Officials from JHS 190 invited City Councilwoman Karen Koslowitz (D-Forest Hills) to see how a $400,000 bond she directed toward computer labs at the school was put to use.

The $400,000 was classified as RESO A, a capital bond available at the discretion of borough presidents and Council members.

Students ushered Koslowitz between two gleaming labs with 33 Macintosh computers apiece Jan. 17.

While playing podcasts and videocasts, students explained that last year they were able to plan similar projects in technology class, but had to create them at home.

Thanks to the new labs, they can now record, edit and publish video and audio clips in school.

A math class demonstrated how a digital sketch pad allowed students to rapidly calculate the angles of a triangle.

Koslowitz said she remembered calculating such equations by hand.

“I think this is quite amazing,” she said.
