A 28-year-old man suspected of killing his 21-year-old wife and two young daughters in their Jamaica apartment was awaiting extradition proceedings Tuesday morning after being apprehended in Texas, a spokesman for the NYPD said.

Miguel Mejia-Ramos was nabbed late Monday after he was found by authorities in Schulenburg, Tex., which is about 250 miles from the United States’ border with Mexico, the spokesman said.

Mejia is a suspect in the fatal stabbing of his wife, Deisy Garcia, and their daughters, 2-year-old Daniela Meija and 1-year-old Yaslin Meija, who were all found dead Sunday evening by a 12-year-old cousin and other relatives in the second-floor flat that the extended family shared on Sutphin Boulevard near 90th Avenue,

All three victims had all suffered multiple stab wounds, the NYPD said.

Police had named Mejia-Ramos as a suspect in the killings Monday afternoon and released information about two vehicles he was known to drive to the U.S. Marshals Service, which then distributed the vehicles’ description to Texas police. Authorities had been on the lookout in Texas because of the state’s close proximity to Mexico, where Mejia-Ramos was born.

Officials said that after one of the vehicles was spotted in Texas about halfway between Houston and San Antonio, a traffic stop was set up and Mejia-Ramos was taken into custody without incident.

“His capture can be attributed to the speed and networking of the multi-agency fugitive task forces led by the U.S. Marshals and the good work by the [Department of Public Safety] officer who first spotted the vehicle,” said Art Fernandez, a supervisor deputy for the U.S. Marshals.
