Flushing man attacks family with barbell before trying to commit suicide: NYPD

By Alex Robinson

A 49-year-old father beat his 7-year-old son, wife and mother-in-law with a barbell before trying to take his own life in their Flushing home Wednesday night, police said.

Quan Hui-Liang attacked his son, cracking his skull, before attacking the rest of his family just after 9 p.m., according to the NYPD.

He then slit his own throat with a 12-inch-long kitchen knife, police said.

Responding officers rushed the three victims to the hospital with wounds to their heads and faces.

Liang was transported to New York Hospital Queens, where he was held in custody while being treated for his wounds, police said. He was in critical but stable condition and had not been charged as of Tuesday morning, the NYPD said.

Neighbors said the family had moved into their Jasmine Avenue home recently.
