MTA to vote on cameras for MetroNorth trains

By Philip Newman

A Metropolitan Transportation Authority committee has approved installation of cameras in Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road trains as a safety and secure measure.

The MTA board was scheduled to vote Wednesday on the $34.8 million contract covering 2,064 rail cars at its regular meeting.

“Cameras provide another measure of safety and security intended to ensure that our trains operate as well as possible and reassure our customers,” said MTA Chairman Thomas Prendergast. “They will aid investigators after accidents and other incidents as well as deter behaviors that could affect train operations.”
