By Juan Soto

Andy Rothman, a Community Board 11 member and active community leader, died Dec. 26 of heart failure. He was 56.

Rothman, a computer consultant, served in CB 11’s board since 2008. He had been involved in community issues for decades.

“He was very involved in the community,” said Christine Haider, CB 11’s chairwoman.

“We are really going to miss him,” said Janet McEneaney, also a community board member. “We came to CB 11 board together.”

Rothman was remembered at this month’s community board meeting.

He was very active in the airplane noise and pollution fight, said McEneaney, president of Queens Quiet Skies, a civic group fighting to curb plane noise around Kennedy and LaGuardia airports.

“He was a true expert when it came to aircraft engines and flight paths in and out of LaGuardia,” McEneaney said.

The news about his death saddened the Bayside and surrounding communities.

“Andy Rothman was a civic leader who worked tirelessly on behalf of us all,” said Warren Schreiber, president of the Bay Terrace Community Alliance. “He will be missed.”

“With the heartbreaking passing of Andy Rothman, we have lost a leader whose life was dedicated to improving our community and who we could all look up to,” said City Councilman Paul Vallone (D-Bayside). “My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.”

The Bayside Hills Civic Association said, “Andy was a great community leader and an honest and good soul”.

Andy’s funeral was held at the Sinai Funeral Chapel at the Horace Harding Expressway.
