Funeral planned for Douglaston native who died in Amtrak crash

A funeral was planned Monday for Laura Finamore, who was killed in the Amtrak train crash last week, at St. Anastasia Church in Douglaston, where the Cushman & Wakefield executive grew up.

U.S. Naval Academy Midshipman Justin Zemser, 20, from Far Rockaway also died in the accident and was buried in Nassau Friday.

The Forest Hills engineer of the train, Brandon Bostian, 32, was at the controls of the Northeast Regional Train 188 as it hurtled more than 100 miles an hour off the train tracks in Philadelphia, National Transportation Safety Board authorities said. The train was traveling at twice the allowable speed limit on the curve north of the 30th Street Station.

Finamore, 47, who graduated from Benjamin Cardozo High School and George Washington University, had been with Cushman & Wakefield for seven years.

The NTSB asked the FBI to join the investigation into the crash after the board found that part of the windshield on the engine car had been shattered by what could have been a rock or a shot.

Bostian has been cooperating fully with the NTSB, authorities said, but he has no memory of the accident.

Full service resumed on the on Penn Station to Washington route Monday morning.
