By Sadef Ali Kully

A pedestrian was killed Thursday night when she was struck by a Nassau County NIC bus near the intersection of 165th Street and Hillside Avenue in Jamaica, the NYPD said.

The incident occurred around 9:20 p.m.

When police arrived, they found a 42-year-old woman, who was unconscious and unresponsive, lying on Hillside Avenue, NYPD said. EMS pronounced the woman dead at the scene, according to the police.

The woman was not identified, pending notification of her family.

An investigation conducted by the NYPD’s Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that a Nassau County NICE bus was stopped at a red light on 165th Street and Hillside Avenue.

When the light turned green, the bus operator made a right turn onto eastbound Hillside Avenue and struck the woman crossing the roadway, police said.

The bus operator stayed at the scene until police arrived and there were no arrests at this time, the NYPD said.
