By Bill Parry

An unlicensed driver who allegedly struck and killed a woman Sunday night in Elmhurst, and then tried to flee, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, according to police.

Valentine Gonzalez, 27, struck an unidentified woman with his white 2000 Mitsubishi box truck as traveled southbound on 76th Street and made a left turn westbound onto Woodside Avenue, according to the NYPD. The woman was struck in the crosswalk and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police said Gonzalez, who lives in Corona, was arrested three blocks away after an eyewitness chased down the suspect at 73rd Street and 41st Avenue. Gonzalez was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and driving without a license.
