Man turns himself in following fatal assault in Long Island City

By Bill Parry

A Long Island man has turned himself in for the fatal beating of Jose Antonio Cocuyo-Malaga in Long Island City early Friday morning.

Kaheem Addison, 29, of Huntington Station, surrendered to detectives at the 108th Precinct, just half a block from the street corner where Cocuyo-Malaga was killed after suffering trauma to the head, according to investigators.

Cocuyo-Malaga, 32, and a co-worker from Bareburger, went looking for a livery cab at 2:30 a.m., police sources said. Addison pulled up to the corner of 50th Avenue and Vernon Boulevard in a gray Chevy Caprice Classic.

Police said Cocuyo-Malaga tried to enter the car, but Addison rushed the victim who struck his head on the pavement.

Police discovered Cocuyo-Malaga unconscious on the sidewalk. He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Addison was charged with manslaughter
