Police probe death of woman found with body trauma on Astoria shoreline

Detectives continue to investigate the death of a woman whose body was found on the Astoria waterfront Friday afternoon.

The discovery was made at 12:45 p.m. by 114th Precinct officers responding to a 911 call regarding an unconscious woman in the vicinity of 21st Avenue and Shore Boulevard.

Police found the woman, who sustained trauma to her head and legs. She was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS units.

Her body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) to determine the cause of death.

“We are investigating,” said Julie Bolcer, director of public affairs for OCME. “Currently, the cause and manner of death are pending further studies.”

The woman has not been identified and an investigation is ongoing, police said.
