Astoria residents looking for an “innovative take” on Vietnamese cuisine can get their fix at Astoria restaurant District Mot starting this Friday, according to their Facebook page.

Located at 37-15 Broadway, the restaurant  is owned and operated by Michael Lien and Judy T, who are children of Saigon refugees and have run successful Vietnamese restaurants and Asian markets, according to District Mot’s website.

“Inspired by a mother’s loving care of cooking, we strive to create a more natural and innovative take on Vietnamese cuisine,” a post on the website read. “Our focus remains on honest, healthy and exciting food that [honors] our [parents’] heritage.”

The restaurant will host about 60 people in “the big room” and 15 people in the “small room” and will only serve dinner for now, the website said. The eatery will aim to “bring the bustling and excitement of Saigon” directly to customers.

According to the owners, the Pho will be accompanied by bone marrow, Bún, or vermecelli bowls, are served with all natural meats and street snacks will include grilled rice paper and “some traditional dishes” such as shaken steak with egg, salt and pepper shrimp and catfish with vermicelli.

The grand opening is set for Feb. 12 at 5 p.m. We Heart Astoria first reported the story.
