50,000 celebrate at Queens Pride Parade

City Councilmember Jimmy Van Bramer and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn joined other elected officials from around the area and marched down 37th Avenue in Jackson Heights in the 19th annual Queens Pride Day parade on Sunday, June 5. The event, a multicultural festival with live performances, was attended by over 50,000 people.
Van Bramer addressed the crowd, highlighting the important roles awareness and visibility play in the rights of every citizen, regardless of their sexual orientation.
“For nearly two decades, the Pride Day celebrations in Queens have increased awareness of LGBT issues,” said Van Bramer. “As we celebrate our many victories over the years, it is important to recognize the work that remains. I am proud to join the tens of thousands standing together in support of marriage equality in New York.”
